Amber was elected Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye on May 6th 2010.
She lives in Hastings in the Old Town.
Amber was at University in Edinburgh where she studied history. She then joined an American investment bank and worked in New York and London, before moving into venture capital – particularly focusing on helping small businesses expand and raise money to help with their development plans. Professionally, she then moved into specialising in recruitment and started writing for financial publications small companies, financing and recruitment.
She moved to Hastings in 2007 and continued with her writing and freelance recruitment business until the election of May 2010. She now only works as a Member of Parliament.
Before being elected Amber was an active campaigner for better rail links (co-founding the local campaign group, www.shrimprail1066.com ) and remains to committed to working towards better rail and road links for the town. She also campaigned for local businesses, securing a freeze in parking costs in Hastings and better payment terms to local businesses for suppliers to the Council. “With my experience in working with businesses, I know how important cashflow is,” said Amber and the local council needs to recognise that and help local businesses.
She has also campaigned against cuts to the local hospital service. She has petitioned the Government for a better tax regime for pensioners. She also spent a week in a local school (Hillcrest) to find out more about our local secondary schools. She is a Governor at Rye Community Primary School.
Amber is the mother of two children – one on her way to University and the other at 6th Form College. She enjoys relaxing by walking in Hastings Country park, roaming around the towns of Hastings and Rye and surrounding villages, and visiting friends in and around the constituency.
