Amber Rudd MP joined over 6,000 people that crammed onto the beach to smash the Guinness World Record for the most pirates ever in one place.

Organiser ‘Jolly’ Roger Crouch was confident of topping the 1,670 who gathered in Portland, USA, but said not in his “wildest dreams” did he expect to beat it by so much.

The final count for the event was a massive 6,166 pirates (and two men dressed as parrots who didn’t get counted).

Amber commented: “I was very pleased to be involved in the record breaking event, congratulations to the organisers for making it such a success and well done to everyone who was involved.  Everyone put a lot of effort into their costumes and it was a fantastic day for the whole town.  I’m looking forward to doing it again next year!”
