In Questions to the Cabinet Office in the chamber of the House of Commons on 8th February, Amber Rudd MP asked the Cabinet Secretary, Francis Maude MP if he would visit the Hastings Trust, who have just been granted £280,000 to promote the big society in Hastings and Rye. The Minister confirmed that either he or Nick Hurd MP, the Minister for Civil Society will visit the project:
“Amber Rudd (Hastings and Rye) (Con): I welcome the Minister’s wise decision to accept a bid from the Hastings Trust and other charities to the social action fund to build community volunteers and to promote the big society in Hastings. May I urge him to visit us in Hastings, to see the good work that is being done?
Mr Maude: The allure of a visit to my hon. Friend’s constituency is hard to resist. I can undertake that I or my hon. Friend the Member for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner (Mr Hurd), the Minister for civil society, will fulfil that engagement.”
Hastings Trust, in partnership with Hastings Furniture Service, Rother Voluntary Action and Rye Partnership, have been awarded £280,000 from the Government’s Social Action Fund to deliver an exciting new volunteering initiative in Hastings and Rye.
Amber commented:
“This is excellent news, I am sure that they will use the funds well to build local community social action projects.”
